Epson EB-X52 Review: The Reliable Workhorse for Modern Spaces
Finding a projector that balances cost, brightness, and longevity is often a challenge, especially for SMEs or educational centers in Malaysia. The Epson EB-X52, as a direct successor to the popular X51, promises a “no-fuss” experience with enough punch to handle typical workspace and education requirements.
After spending some time with it, here is our breakdown of whether this XGA projector deserves a spot in your meeting room.
Design and Build: Portable and Practical

At just 2.5kg, the EB-X52 is lightweight for its performance class. It features Epson’s signature clean white chassis that blends into any ceiling mount or tabletop setup.

The build feels solid, and the inclusion of a manual horizontal keystone slider makes it incredibly easy to align the image even if the projector is placed at an angle to the wall.

Physical ports:
- USB-A (5V/2A)
- USB-B
- HDMI 1
- HDMI 2
The USB-A port has been upgraded to support 5V/2A power output which could be used to power Android TV sticks. This means you can instantly convert this projector into a smart projector. Meanwhile, the USB-B port is useful for minimizing the cable clutter:
- USB display using a standard USB-A to USB-B cable (the kind used by printers)
- Remote Control Emulation (using Page Up and Page Down buttons on the projector remote control to flip through your PPT slides)

There are two ways to control the projector – either the onboard buttons or the remote control.

The feet are adjustable to make sure the projector stays level on any sort of table surface.
Performance: 3,800 Lumens of Clarity

The standout feature here is the 3,800 lumens of color and white brightness. Powered by 3LCD technology, the colors remain vivid and don’t suffer from the “rainbow effect” often seen in cheaper projectors.
In Eco Mode, the lamp is rated for up to 12,000 hours. If you use this projector for 4 hours every single workday, you’re looking at nearly 12 years before needing a lamp replacement. The numbers are for reference purposes as it doesn’t necessarily mean it will immediately shut off at the 12,000 hour point. You get the idea, it means lower cost of ownership.

The lens cover slide protects the precious lens while not in use and it also functions as a quick way to pause the projection, including muting the audio.

In a typical meeting room with the lights on, the EB-X52 holds its own.

The XGA (1024 x 768) resolution is perfectly fine for Excel sheets, PowerPoint presentations, and static documents. While it isn’t a 1080p home cinema beast, the 16,000:1 contrast ratio ensures that text remains sharp and readable from the back of the room.
Features That Make Sense

Epson has packed in a few “quality of life” features that actually matter in a professional setting:
- Split Screen: You can project two different sources side-by-side. This is great for video conferencing where you want the presentation on one side and the speaker on the other.
- Auto Vertical Keystone: Just turn it on and point it at the wall; the projector does a decent job of squaring the image automatically.

Apparently they also have a new home screen. You may have noticed that the home screen also shows the blank SSID and IP details. Yes the projector supports wireless connectivity, however the USB WiFi dongle is a separate purchase. Personally, I think it makes sense because not everyone needs it.
The Trade-offs

It’s not perfect. The built-in 2W mono speaker is serviceable for a small meeting room but it won’t sound good; you’ll definitely want external speakers for anything media-heavy. Also, while it supports wireless connectivity, you do need to purchase the ELPAP11 wireless dongle separately.
Verdict
The Epson EB-X52 isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel. It’s a refined and better version of a formula that already works. If you need a reliable projector that can handle the glare of a bright Malaysian afternoon and won’t require a lamp change for years, this is a top-tier contender in the sub-RM2,500 category.
Pros:
- High brightness (3,800 lumens) is great for lit rooms.
- Long lamp life (12,000 hours in Eco).
- Easy setup with horizontal keystone slider.
- Lightweight and portable.
Cons:
- Native XGA resolution works fine for PPT but feels a bit dated for high-res media.
