RHB Launches Sound Box Plus: Cards and DuitNow QR in One Device for Malaysian Merchants
Malaysian businesses looking to streamline their counter setup have a new hardware option from RHB Banking Group. The bank has officially introduced the Sound Box Plus, an integrated multi-payment acceptance terminal designed to handle both DuitNow QR (DNQR) and card payments in a single device.
Building on RHB’s previous Static and Dynamic DNQR Sound Box setups, the new Sound Box Plus adds traditional card support into the mix, giving small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) and high-volume merchants a more cost-effective alternative to standard EDC terminals.

What’s New with the Sound Box Plus?
- Card & QR Support in One Unit: Accepts DuitNow QR payments alongside debit and credit cards without needing separate terminal hardware.
- NFC Contactless Tap: Built-in Near Field Communication (NFC) allows quick tap-to-pay for card transactions under RM250 (aligning with standard contactless limits).
- Real-Time Audio Alerts: Features built-in voice confirmation for completed payments, helping staff instantly verify successful transactions and avoid fraudulent screenshot scams during peak hours.
- Standalone Connectivity: Comes equipped with built-in SIM connectivity, ensuring reliable operation without relying on the merchant’s local Wi-Fi network.
- Paperless Setup: Eliminates printed paper receipts entirely, allowing for cleaner counter operations and lower overhead costs.
Targeted at SMEs and Cashless Operations
With digital payment volumes rising across Malaysia, managing multiple payment terminals can quickly clutter point-of-sale areas. RHB’s Sound Box Plus addresses this by merging QR code displays and card readers into a single portable footprint.
“Businesses today require payment solutions that are not only efficient, but also secure and scalable as transaction volumes grow. Sound Box Plus reflects our continued commitment to helping merchants operate with greater confidence by simplifying payment acceptance across multiple channels,” said Nurjesmi Mohd Nashir, Managing Director of Group Wholesale Banking at RHB Bank Berhad.
While card transaction limits on the device follow the standard RM250 contactless threshold, standard DuitNow QR transaction caps will continue to rely on the individual customer’s daily online banking limits.
