Review – Roborock H7 Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

Do you know about the secret of supermarket shelf product placement?

Eye-level is buy-level

This phrase is associated with the shelf product placement where the eye-level shelf real estate is the most valuable to the brands since it grabs the consumer’s attention right away. Simply put, we always see things at our eye level and unintentionally neglect most of the other zones. For example, the dusty top shelf and that dirty corner of the room.

Maybe I’m procrastinating or being lazy but Roborock has recently sent in the H7 cordless vacuum cleaner and I guess there’s no escape from doing the house chores.

User Experience

Since there’s a force called gravitational force, it is always recommended to start cleaning from top to bottom. Hard to reach areas like the ceiling are usually populated by spiders and their cobwebs.

Conventionally you would use something like a cobweb brush but that would result in a very dusty room.

A vacuum with an extension tube attached with either a crevice tool or a dusting brush would also do the job.

The same applies when you want to clean the ceiling fans. Even though wiping the fan blades are still more effective, you can always start by first vacuuming the accumulated dust and dirt then only proceed with the wiping.

While the Roborock H7 body only weighs about 1.5kg, it can be tiring if you’re cleaning for a prolonged period of time. The flex tube is an exceptional component whereby you can some sort of “detach” the brush and focus on vacuuming.

There is a lock button at the side so that you don’t have to keep holding on to the trigger while vacuuming.

The motorised mini brush roller is an excellent tool for vacuuming the sofa and bed.

Yes, you may look at the sofa and bed thinking it is clean but actually it is not. This tool allows a quick and easy way to clean the fabric surface in between the washes. It is advised to adjust the suction power to a minimum as anything above that would cause the linen to get sucked in.

Battery Life

The three power modes directly affect the cleaning capability of the Roborock H7 as well as its battery life. The H7 now packs a larger battery pack which allows up to 90 minutes of run time with the crevice tool at the minimum power settings. If you choose to run the vacuum with the motorised brush roller at maximum power settings, the battery will only last for about 8 minutes.

Generally, I won’t be using the vacuum at the highest settings because even the medium power is strong enough for general cleaning and it also provides a reasonable 40 minutes of run time.

Besides, it takes about 2 and a half hours to fully charge it. You can either directly plug in the charger to the vacuum or mount it to the mag base on the wall. I hope the battery is actually detachable since it would be way easier to replace it when the battery deteriorated.

What I really like is how they have implemented magnets to the tools so that I can attach them to the magbase or the fridge.

Maintenance

Cleaning the vacuum is pretty straightforward by opening the bottom cover.

The rest of the filters can also be washed but make sure to dry them out completely before reusing them.

On the other hand, I need to point out that the Roborock H7 also supporting a dust bag with the included attachment. This is suitable for those who are sensitive to dust and microparticles. Basically when the bag is filled up, just change it with a new one. You might think this is expensive and pointless but that is the struggle these people are facing.

Conclusion

Lastly, the price. The Roborock H7 retails at USD599 which is about RM2500 before tax. Even though Roborock Malaysia is listing the official price as RM3399 I did notice they are constantly having sales whereby you can get at RM1799. I understand this is a common e-commerce tactic by listing a higher original price but hey at RM1799, this is way cheaper than it originally was.

I know for some, 1799 is still a steep price to pay for a vacuum cleaner.l, especially when there are plenty of ultra-affordable OEM brands and models starting from as low as rm200. I just need to say, you’re getting whatever you’re paying. The H7 is powerful, has an excellent build quality and is feature-packed. I owned a couple of affordable cordless vacuum cleaners before and most of them went out of commission in less than a year. Combining all my previous purchases, I can easily get a high-quality vacuum instead of creating more e-waste.
