Maxis provided the Best Mobile Internet Performance 2019 – Barometer nPerf Malaysia

2 min read

Last time, we wrote about the fastest internet speeds in Malaysia in which Maxis dominates the overall performance chart. Today the exact same company nPerf has revealed the fastest internet speeds in Malaysia for 2019 wherein the previous article only comprises of the data from the second quarter of 2018 to the first quarter of 2019.

Generally, nothing has changed much and Maxis is still the reigning champ throughout the entire 2019.  To gather these data, nPerf uses its community of users performing tests on their mobile connection with the nPerf app. Furthermore, nPerf is not only measuring network speeds but also Customer Experience with its streaming and browsing tests.

In 2019, nPerf users have made 93,870 connection tests in Malaysia (including speed test, browsing test, and streaming test) with the nPerf mobile app (iOS and Android).

Maxis is the winner of the following categories:

  • Best download speed with 18 Mb/s
  • Best upload speed with 8 Mb/s
  • Best latency with 53 ms
  • Best browsing performance with a rate of 56%
  • Best streaming performance with a rate of 79%

In 2019, Maxis has provided the fastest Internet connections on mobile networks in Malaysia. With an average download speed close to 18 Mb/s, Maxis is quite far ahead from its competitors, indeed, the second one is DiGi with 14 Mb/s. Concerning the upload connections, Maxis is also in first ranking but Celcom is not far behind.

Maxis is also in a very good position on latency, again in the first position. The operator offered the best browsing and streaming performances to its subscribers too. Unifi, for its part, offered the best connection rates. On mobile networks, Maxis has no rivals.

But to again reiterate my scepticism about the test, the test results do not show the speeds if the mobile networks in every location as Maxis used to be so painstakingly slow in my housing area. The data users must have mostly been in major cities when testing that out as I’ve never seen anyone in the rural area downloading any app to check their connection speeds. A single test eats up a few 10MBs from their quota and I don’t think they will want their internet to be spent that way. Just something to think of.
