Garmin’s new fēnix 9 and fēnix 9 Pro combines training journey with story sharing
Garmin Malaysia just dropped two new watches for people who treat “adventure” as a personality trait. The fēnix 9 and fēnix 9 Pro are the latest in Garmin’s multisport GPS lineup, and while both bring serious upgrades, the Pro model steps things up with a titanium case that somehow looks sharper while staying tough.
One of the standout additions across both watches is something called Garmin Epic. It’s a free feature that lets you group multiple activities, say, a multi-day backpacking trip or a cycling stage race, into one cohesive story inside the Garmin Connect app. You get to see your health and performance data across that whole stretch, throw in some photos, and share the whole thing with friends and family.
Both watches also get smarter about tracking your endurance, with new stamina zones and a stamina curve that show how your fitness is trending over time and help with pacing during activities. Indoor rowers get extra insights like VO2 Max and power curve tracking, and if rucking is your thing, you can now adjust pack weight mid-activity, follow GORUCK workouts right on your wrist, and set targets with packs up to 100kg.
Navigation got a real upgrade too. The fēnix 9 has 50% more RAM than the fēnix 8, which translates to panning that’s up to 30% faster, plus a new perspective view that gives you more detail both close up and further down the trail. With 64GB of storage, you can download twice as many maps as before and still have room for up to 7,000 songs.
The base fēnix 9 also brings an AMOLED display twice as bright as its predecessor, a scratch-resistant sapphire lens, leakproof buttons, and a 40-meter dive rating, and it comes in 43mm, 47mm, and 51mm sizes.
The Pro model takes everything from the standard fēnix 9 and adds its own flair. It’s the first fēnix watch with a titanium case, built using nano-molding tech that fuses metal and plastic at a molecular level, which keeps it strong while trimming down the thickness. The AMOLED display hits up to 3,000 nits of brightness for easy reading even in harsh sunlight, and the 51mm Pro gets Garmin’s first 1.5-inch AMOLED display, 15% bigger than the fēnix 8 without growing the case.
Select Pro models also offer solar charging for extended battery life, and there’s now a green LED flashlight mode for nighttime adventures that won’t wreck your night vision.
Both watches get new ComfortFit accessory bands too, with a fabric split-weave design that’s stretchy, durable, and easy to swap out thanks to QuickFit.
