Canon backs Sofyank’s directorial debut with heartfelt Raya short film
Canon Malaysia has once again participated in the local kinography community by joining forces with Sofyank to produce the latest 2026 Raya short film called ‘Kasih Yang Tidak Bergema’.

Instead of flashy visuals, he’s focusing on something much more grounded and emotional, building a story around family, sacrifice, and those quiet, unspoken ways love shows up, especially during Raya.
From Canon’s side, this is their way of giving a bigger push to support local talent and give creators the platform – and tools – to tell more meaningful stories. And for Sofyank, he’s s stepping away from being in front of the camera and fully embracing the role of a filmmaker, working with actors and focusing on emotional storytelling rather than effects-driven spectacle. It also ties into his recent move from Canon EOS Master to EOS Filmmaker, which kind of signals this next phase in his career.

He mentioned that directing this film gave him the chance to explore deeper narratives and really grow as a storyteller, and you can see that reflected in the film’s core theme – a mother’s love that isn’t loud or obvious, but expressed through sacrifice, prayers, and all those small, often overlooked moments, with the child slowly realizing the weight of those quiet movements.
On the technical side, the whole film was shot using the Canon EOS C50, which Canon is using to showcase how its imaging tech can deliver that cinematic look while still capturing all the emotional nuance the story needs.
