At MWC 2017 Barcelona, Sony officially announces their latest Xperia smartphones. For high-end category – the Xperia XZ Premium and Xperia XZs, then the mid-range category – the Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra. Sony has beaten Samsung to be the first to announce a phone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 835.

The new Xperia devices share the same design language from the previous generation Xperia X-series lineup. The signature rounded sides that connect the front and back surface. The flat top and bottom that allows the device to stand up straight. Sony calls it the loop design.

Xperia XZ Premium

The Xperia XZ Premium is beautifully designed with a choice of material includes a metal frame that is sandwiched in between the Corning Gorilla Glass 5 panels at the front and back. Making it one of the most premium looking devices Sony has every designed.

The core engine of the Xperia XZ Premium is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835, backed by 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. The phone also supports Micro SD card up to 256 GB. The 5.5-inch TRILUMINOS display at the front comes at 4K resolution with HDR support. The camera department gets the 19 MP shooter at the back and 13 MP shooter at the front. Sony’s new Motion Eye camera system allows 5x faster image processing. This allows the camera to provide 960 fps super slow motion video capture. Powering the XZ Premium is a 3230 mAh battery.

Xperia XZ Premium is available globally in 2 different colour options – Luminous Chrome and Deepsea Black, from late Spring 2017.

Xperia XZs

The secondary Xperia flagship retains the same premium loop design from the Xperia line up. Instead, the Xperia XZs is having plastic sides with a metal rear panel.

The Xperia XZs is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, paired with 4 GB of RAM. The internal storage comes in the choice of 32 GB or 64 GB which is expandable via the Micro SD card. The 5.2-inch TRILUMINOS display comes at a standard 1080p Full HD resolution. The camera shares the same configuration as the XZ Premium, 19 MP shooter at the back and 13 MP shooter at the front, complete with Sony’s new Motion Eye camera system for 960 fps super slow motion video capture. Keeping the lights on is the 2900 mAh battery.

Xperia XZs will be available from the beginning of April 2017 in Ice Blue, Warm Silver and Black.

Xperia XA1 Ultra

The Xperia XA1 Ultra comes with a massive 6.0-inch display with 1080p resolution. The guts include the MediaTek Helio P20 processor with 4 GB of RAM. Internal storage comes in 2 different variant – 32 GB and 64 GB, with Micro SD card support up to 256 GB. The camera comes equipped with a 23 MP rear camera and 16 MP front-facing camera. Weirdly, for a phablet, the XA1 Ultra comes with a disappointing 2700 mAh battery.

Xperia XA1 and Xperia XA1 Ultra will roll out from Spring 2017 in White, Black, Pink and Gold. Both models have matching Style Cover Stands available in White and Black along with a range of complementary accessories.
