Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3 gets smaller design, longer-range finding and cross-OS support
Samsung is making it easier to keep tabs on keys, luggage, bikes and even pets with the new Galaxy SmartTag3, which gets a smaller design, longer-range finding and support across Galaxy and iOS devices.

Compared with the previous generation, the Galaxy SmartTag3 is around 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter. The more compact design makes it easier to attach to smaller items, while its rounded body and aluminum-decorated button give it a more refined look. Samsung is also introducing optional Silicone Case and Loop Case accessories.
The bigger change, though, is how far the SmartTag3 can help users narrow down a missing item. Its Compass View feature now works from up to 60 meters away under line-of-sight conditions when using Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding – roughly three times the previous generation’s range.
Once users get closer, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) can provide more precise distance and directional guidance on compatible Galaxy devices. The combination is designed to make the search feel more continuous, from locating an item somewhere in the distance to pinpointing it nearby.
If the SmartTag3 moves outside the phone’s direct connection range, Samsung’s Galaxy Find Network can take over. The network now includes more than 900 million participating Galaxy devices worldwide, which can act as finding nodes and send location updates for a tagged item. Samsung says faster network updates can help surface new location information sooner after a tag disconnects from its owner’s device.
Meanwhile, Place Notification can alert users when a tag moves into or out of a defined area, while Location History lets them review where a tag has been. Movement Detection Alert can also notify users when movement is detected without requiring them to repeatedly check the tag’s location.
Cross-OS compatibility is another notable addition. For the first time in the SmartTag lineup, Galaxy SmartTag3 supports core finding and sharing features across Galaxy and iOS devices. This means, for example, that someone borrowing a tagged suitcase can use their own compatible device to check its location and access supported finding features.
The SmartTag3 retains an IP67 rating for water and dust resistance and supports NFC-powered Lost Mode, which can display registered contact information or a message when a lost tag is scanned with a compatible phone. Its button can also trigger preset routines for compatible SmartThings devices.
Battery life is rated at up to 550 days under standard usage, increasing to up to 790 days with Power Saving Mode enabled.
Privacy remains part of the package, with location data encrypted to help protect user information.
