Samsung Family Hub Brings Connected Living to the Kitchen

Fridges with a built-in display are not new and plenty of the manufacturers could’ve done that with ease by just strapping a tablet onto a fridge. However, it takes more than that to justify such a decision, which means what kind of value does it offer to the end-users.  Enter the Samsung Family Hub Internet-connected Fridge which was officially introduced today in Malaysia.

Let’s face it, a fridge is arguably the kitchen’s most important piece of equipment. It is a place for us to store our food supplies and keep them fresh. However, what Samsung Family Hub brings to the table is combining the essentials and user experience on this fridge. The outlook is pretty much how a fridge would look like, except with the huge display on the right door. It houses a Tizen OS powered Family Hub system which aims to assist homeowners when it comes to grocery shopping, plan and prepare meals, share notes, sync family schedules, and even stream our favourite music or videos.

The View Inside feature utilises the internal-mounted camera to show what you currently have in the fridge. The video can also be streamed directly to your Samsung Phone through the Family Hub app. This proves to be extremely useful when you’re wondering what should you get during grocery shopping. Just that this particular model only comes with a single camera configuration, hence it will only show part of its refrigerator compartment instead of all. The Family Hub also acts as a smart hub for everything you need when you’re in the kitchen. Particularly the Recipe & Meal Planner which is useful for meals preparations while Family Board acts as a centre of family information synchronisation.

I personally think its best feature is no that than the ability to connect the fridge to the SmartThings ecosystem. Essentially, you can see and control everything you have previously connected to the SmartThings for example, the TV, robot vacuum, washing machine, Hue lightbulbs and more.

The Samsung Side-By-Side Family Hub Smart Fridge is now available at nationwide Samsung retailers at RM8999, more information available at https://www.samsung.com/my/refrigerators/side-by-side-rs62t5f01b4/
