Samsung SmartThings integrates IKEA smart devices with Matter standard

Samsung’s SmartThings platform has augmented its connectivity ecosystem recently by integrating IKEA’s smart home product line to allow users to easily incorporate twenty-five Matter-over-Thread compatible IKEA devices – including smart bulbs, plugs, and various sensors – into the unified SmartThings system.

This partnership simplifies setup, as users no longer need separate hubs, and instead, IKEA devices can now connect directly to the SmartThings hub, working alongside Samsung appliances like TVs and washing machines, as well as a wide range of third-party protocols to allow things like:

  • Door sensors can be linked to SmartThings Family Care to monitor the activity of loved ones
  • Air quality and temperature sensors can collect detailed data on humidity, temperature, and CO2 levels
  • Provide sleep environment reports and set routines
  • Water leak sensors provide immediate alerts for prompt responses
  • Scroll wheel remote gives precise control over functions like lighting brightness and color temperature

By adopting Thread, a low-power networking technology, the SmartThings platform ensures that devices from different brands can operate within a single, unified system.
