First Look: Samsung Frame Case for Galaxy S23 Ultra

When it comes to phone cases, there are plenty in the market for you to choose from. The price ranges from a few ringgit for flimsy silicone cases to a few hundred ringgit for high-end cases. In short, the sky is the limit if your wallet allows it.
Sometimes we overlooked the first-party official phone cases due to the vast selection available in the market and some, might not even be aware of it. Today what we have in the studio is the Samsung Frame Case for Galaxy S23 Ultra. Let’s find out more about the case and see if it is worth the RM169 price tag.
The Frame Case comes in standard paper box packaging.
What you get in the box are the Frame Case pieces that consist of:
- transparent bumper
- transparent back
- wallet back
It is very important to understand the user manual. Especially since there are three different modes you can use with the Frame Case:
- Bumper mode
- Transparent mode
- Wallet mode
Transparent mode is best to showcase the phone or you may custom print a design sheet and place it in between.
Since our S23 Ultra is wrapped, it looks really cool with the transparent back piece on.
Alternatively, the Wallet back allows you to carry one card in its holder.
I know what you’re thinking, just one card? That is rather unfortunate but it is what it is. Presumably, the design team is trying to reduce the thickness of the case.
One thing to take note of is that the care slot is shielded to ensure safe card usage. That means you will need to remove the card to use the NFC function such as Paywave.
Oh, not to mention, you will be sacrificing the wireless charging capabilities with the wallet back.
The back piece provides decent protection to the camera module.
The bumper has to raise lips at the top and bottom to provide some protection to the screen when you’re placing the phone screen down. The sides, however, need to make way for the curved screen.
Conclusion
At RM169, this is one of the premium-priced phone cases. At his price range, consumers would tend to compare it with third-party case brands such as Spigen, UAG, Pitaka, and a lot more. Since I personally am a fan of transparent cases, I think the case looks really nice on the phone especially if you have some unique phone wrap on it.
Other than that, I do have two major complaints about the case. Number one is the bumper case being overly tight, the reason being that users might want to change the back according to their personal preferences. Frequent removal of the bumper case risk scratching the phone or damaging the bumper. Number two, the cardholder brings a slew of compromises just to fit one single card.
In short, the Frame Case is an interesting 3-in-1 offer for those who tend to switch cases or want to showcase the phone. Just that the cardholder is underwhelming considering the steep price tag of RM169.
