Samsung enters triple-screen race with the Galaxy Z TriFold

Samsung has officially joined the battle for triple-screen dominance with the announcement of the Galaxy Z TriFold, marking its return to leadership in a category it helped create. The company is positioning this device as a response to rivals that have already pushed tri-folding concepts into the market, while highlighting its decade of foldable expertise to frame the TriFold as a leap in engineering maturity.

The Galaxy Z TriFold uses a dual-fold mechanism that expands into a 10-inch, tablet-like display, and Samsung is emphasizing the advantage of its design, manufacturing, and quality-control experience as the reason the device can achieve a profile as slim as 3.9mm at its thinnest point. The company has also overhauled the hinge system with the updated Armor FlexHinge, which now uses two differently sized hinge modules to create a smoother folding motion, minimize panel gaps, and maintain alignment throughout the fold.

This is paired with a strengthened dual-fold display layer, titanium hinge housing for long-term durability, and an Advanced Armor Aluminum frame designed to prevent panel contact, while the ceramic-glass reinforced polymer back panel keeps the device thin without sacrificing rigidity.

On the productivity side, Samsung is leaning heavily into the expanded screen real estate by enabling three-app multitasking, flexible window resizing, vertical document review, and quick app switching via a taskbar. Samsung DeX support comes built-in without requiring an external monitor, allowing up to four workspaces with five apps each, while Extended Mode can turn the TriFold into a dual-display setup for users who want a secondary screen. The device also supports pairing with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse for a more desktop-like workflow.

Samsung hasn’t disclosed much about Galaxy AI on the TriFold, but early indications suggest the software experience will either introduce features tailored for the tri-screen layout or adapt existing tools with an optimized UI and UX for the new form factor.
