Samsung expands Sleep Apnea detection to Galaxy Watch users in Malaysia and globally
Samsung has officially rolled out its Sleep Apnea detection feature for the Galaxy Watch series through the Samsung Health Monitor app in Malaysia. The move follows the feature’s receipt of the Medical Device Registration Certificate from the country’s Medical Device Authority, affirming compliance with local standards for health, safety, and environmental protection.

The latest expansion builds on a growing list of international regulatory approvals, including those from Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration and Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority. Earlier, Samsung secured De Novo authorization from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which marked the first time a wearable device received clearance to detect signs of moderate to severe obstructive sleep apnea. Additional approvals have also been granted by Korea’s Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, Brazil’s ANVISA, and Health Canada.
Through the power of digital analysis, users can better understand their sleep patterns and receive personalized coaching, as well as early symptom detection, which essentially covers both currently affected users and those at risk of developing sleep apnea.
