Samsung Pay to be launched in Malaysia on 24th February 2017

After months of beta trial run with Maybank, Samsung is finally launching Samsung Pay in Malaysia with more partner banks, namely CIMB Bank, Citibank and Standard Charted Bank. Samsung Pay empowers your selected Samsung smartphone to make payments at card terminals instead of physical cards.

Samsung Pay utilises both Near Field Communication (NFC) and Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST) technology, hence compatible with cards terminals that don’t support NFC (Paywave or PayPass). That literally means it is the most accepted mobile payment solution.

The MST and NFC-enabled Samsung devices:

  • Galaxy S6 edge+
  • Galaxy S7
  • Galaxy S7 edge
  • Galaxy Note5
  • Galaxy A7(2016)
  • Galaxy A5(2016)
  • Galaxy A7(2017)
  • Galaxy A5(2017)

Simply swipe up on your device’s screen, authenticated with fingerprint or PIN and hold the device at the card terminal to complete the transaction. On top of the fingerprint and PIN security, Samsung Pay uses tokenization where the device only stores a device specific token to replace the actual card information. The token is used to protect your payment information in case your phone being stolen, the hacker will not be able to know your actual card details.

Here’s a list of banks and cards that support Samsung Pay at launch, more coming soon:

The official launch will take place at Suria KLCC Centre Court, on 24th February 2017. It will be a 5-day roadshow until 28th February where Samsung Malaysia is giving out daily attractive prizes – 1 Samsung Galaxy S7 edge and a mix of 100 Samsung Wireless Chargers or Battery Pack to those who uses Samsung Pay at Suria KLCC during the roadshow.

Be the first 100 to spend a minimum 3x RM30 via Samsung Pay, you’ll stand a chance to win a Samsung Wireless Chargers or Battery Pack. Highest spender of the day will win the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge.

Now you may ask why don’t we just stick to the plastic cards. I personally think that mobile payment is the future. Instead of searching through my wallet for the card, I can easily reach out to my smartphone and use it for payments.
